New publication from BLADES2BUILD!
πβ»οΈ From a Successful Workshop to New Scientific Achievements β BLADES2BUILD Keeps Advancing Circular Innovation! π
π Following the successful completion of our BLADES2BUILD Workshop at RWTH Aachen University, we are excited to share another important milestone from the project: a new scientific publication exploring the recycling potential and reprocessing performance of shredded wind turbine blade waste in thermoplastic composites from the Eindhoven University of Technology! π¬
π‘ Can end-of-life wind turbine blades become high-performance materials that can be reprocessed multiple times without compromising their properties?
Our latest research brings us one step closer to answering this question!
The study investigates the effects of repeated reprocessing on shredded wind turbine blade (SWTB) waste-reinforced polypropylene (PP) composites, demonstrating promising opportunities for replacing virgin materials while maintaining excellent mechanical and thermal performance.
π Key research highlights:
β Up to 50 wt.% recycled blade waste: Successful incorporation of shredded wind turbine blade waste into PP composites.
β Performance after multiple recycling cycles: Compatibilized composites demonstrated remarkable mechanical performance recovery even after three processing cycles.
β Improved material properties: Reprocessing enhanced fibre dispersion and fibreβmatrix adhesion, contributing to improved mechanical performance.
β Enhanced thermal stability: Higher degradation temperatures and increased crystallinity were observed.
β Reduced dependence on virgin materials: The results demonstrate the potential to substitute 10β15 wt.% virgin glass fibres and 25β50 wt.% polypropylene while retaining comparable mechanical performance.
π Congratulations and sincere thanks to all the researchers Shashank Tumkur Karnick, Nataliya Lushnikova, David Hysi, Jos Brouwers and Florent Gauvin for their excellent scientific work and valuable contribution to the objectives of BLADES2BUILD!
β¨ From knowledge exchange at our workshop to scientific breakthroughs in materials recycling, BLADES2BUILD continues turning research into practical circular solutions!
