🔔 Project Milestone from BLADES2BUILD! Our first demonstrator!
♻️ First-of-its-kind reuse of wind turbine blade fibers in structural concrete in Europe from our partners Holcim and Endesa! ✅
🔔 We’re proud to share a major achievement from the BLADES2BUILD project: the successful reuse of recycled fibers from decommissioned wind turbine blades in structural concrete, applied during the repowering of Endesa’s Aldeavieja wind farm (Ávila, Spain).
👉 This marks the first time in Europe that structural components from dismantled wind farms have been reintegrated into new infrastructure, closing the loop in a truly circular repowering model.
📍 The technical development has been led by our partner Holcim and the Holcim España Concrete Laboratory in Alcobendas (Madrid), which have created a pioneering formulation incorporating recycled fibers from wind turbine blades as a partial substitute for natural aggregates.
🔍 Highlights of the process:
✅ Wind turbine blades were cut into sections so they could be transported to a crushing plant, where they were then converted into an alternative aggregate as an element of a new structural concrete.
✅ These fibers were incorporated into a pioneering low-impact concrete, developed by Holcim using the ECOCycle® technology.
🔎 This achievement reflects the mission of BLADES2BUILD:
To develop scalable, real-world solutions for the circular reuse of wind turbine blades, one of the most technically challenging components in renewable energy end-of-life management.
🌱 BLADES2BUILD is proving that circularity in wind power is not just possible, it’s already happening!
